Que. 4 What is the function of a stem?
Ans. 4 Some of the most important functions of a stem are:
- It helps in the upward movement of the water and nutrients from the roots to the various branches, leaves and other parts of the plant.
- It also transports the food from the leaves to the roots and other parts of the plant.
- It provides structural support to the plant.
Que. 5 Which of the following leaves have reticulate venation?
Wheat, tulsi, maize, grass, coriander (dhania), China rose
Ans. 5 Among the following leaves only tulsi, coriander and China rose have reticulate venation.
Que. 6 If a plant has fibrous roots, what type of venation do its leaves have?
Ans. 6 If a plant has fibrous roots then its leaves have parallel venation.
Que. 7 If a plant has leaves with reticulate venation, what kind of roots will it have?
Ans. 7 If a plant leaves have reticulate venation then it will have a tap root system.
Que. 8 Is it possible for you to find out whether a plant has taproot or fibrous roots by
looking at the impression of its leaf on a sheet of paper?
Ans. 8 Yes, it is possible for us to find out whether a plant has taproot or fibrous roots just by looking at the impression of the leaf on a sheet of paper. If the impression shows a reticulate venation (network of fine veins) then the plant will have a taproot system whereas if the impression shows a parallel venation (veins running parallel) then the plant will have a fibrous root system.
